Privacy Policy
We don't sell your data, run ads, or track you across other apps and websites — and we never record your camera video or which cameras you watch. Live video is converted on our gateway only while you're watching and then discarded. Otherwise we store the bare minimum needed to keep you signed in to Ring, send the motion and doorbell alerts you turn on, and let you manage your devices — OAuth tokens, your Ring account ID, a pairing token, your iPhone's name, and a notification token for your device.
Who we are
Video Watch Live is a third-party app for iPhone and Apple Watch that displays your Ring camera feeds on your phone and wrist and sends motion and doorbell alerts. The app connects to your Ring account through Ring's official integration platform.
Contact: support@videowatchlive.com
Information we collect
When you use Video Watch Live, we collect and store the following:
- Ring account identifier. A unique ID provided by Ring that we use to associate your authentication tokens with your account.
- OAuth tokens. Ring provides us with access and refresh tokens that allow our backend to retrieve your camera information and live streams on your behalf. Stored encrypted at rest in our backend database (AWS DynamoDB), refreshed automatically. Not shared with anyone other than Ring.
- Device pairing session. When you pair on your iPhone, we generate a random device session token stored on your iPhone and synced to your Apple Watch, and in our backend database. This token authenticates your app's API requests; it does not identify you personally.
- iPhone name and device identifier. So you can see and manage which devices are connected to your account, we store the name your iPhone reports (for example, “Avi's iPhone”) and Apple's per-vendor device identifier (
identifierForVendor). The device name is whatever you set on your iPhone — if you named it after a person, that is what we store. Both are used only for device management and are deleted when you sign out or delete your account. - Notification token. If you turn on alerts, Apple issues a push notification token for your device, which we store so our backend can send you motion and doorbell notifications through Apple's Push Notification service. It contains no personal information, is tied to your device session, and is deleted when you turn alerts off, sign out, or when Apple reports it is no longer valid.
- Pairing links. During pairing we create a short, single-purpose web link that points back to your account so you can finish linking. These links expire automatically within 15 minutes.
- Webhook events. Ring sends events to our backend when motion is detected, doorbells are rung, etc. We use these to send your alerts and to display them in your event history.
- App preferences. Camera order, favorite, visibility choices, and audio toggles are stored on your device. Never sent to our backend.
We do not collect:
- Your email, mailing address, or payment information.
- Your name as a profile field. (The only exception is the device name above, which is whatever label you chose for your iPhone and may happen to contain a name.)
- Third-party analytics SDKs or advertising trackers inside the app, and no following you across other apps and sites. (Our marketing website uses standard analytics cookies — see “Website analytics & cookies” below.)
- Your viewing history or watch behavior — which cameras you open, what you watch, or any video.
- Your Apple ID, or any account data tied to it.
- Location data.
- The microphone or camera input from your iPhone or Apple Watch.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect solely to:
- Provide live camera streams on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Send you the motion and doorbell alerts you turn on.
- Maintain your authentication state across sessions.
- Refresh your Ring tokens automatically so you don't have to log in repeatedly.
- Display motion and doorbell event history from your cameras.
Camera streams
Live video and audio from your Ring cameras reach your devices through our streaming gateway, which converts each stream on demand into a format Apple Watch and iPhone can play. Stream content is processed only while you are watching and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted to any third parties beyond Ring's own infrastructure. The gateway holds no copy once you stop watching, and we do not keep recordings.
Third parties and sub-processors
Ring. We connect to Ring's API to retrieve your camera information and live streams. Ring's privacy policy applies to all data they collect: ring.com/privacy-notice.
Apple. Motion and doorbell alerts are delivered through Apple's Push Notification service. Apple's privacy policy governs that delivery.
Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our backend and streaming gateway (DynamoDB database, Lambda functions, the transcoding gateway, and hosting) run on AWS. AWS does not access your data beyond what is necessary to provide the infrastructure service.
Beyond Ring, Apple, and AWS above, we do not share your app or camera data with advertisers, analytics providers, or any other third parties.
Website analytics & cookies
This policy is mostly about the Video Watch Live app. Our marketing website (videowatchlive.com) is separate, and it uses standard website analytics so we can understand how people find and use the site.
- We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. When you visit the website, these set cookies and collect standard web-analytics data — the pages you view, basic device and browser information, the referring source, and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
- This is about website visitors only. It is not connected to the app, your devices, your Ring account, or your cameras — none of your camera data, video, or Ring tokens ever touch the website or its analytics.
- This data is processed by Google under its own terms (policies.google.com/privacy). We use it only in aggregate to improve the site, and we do not sell it.
- To opt out, block cookies in your browser or install Google's opt-out add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
Data retention
We retain your authentication tokens and Ring account ID for as long as your account is connected.
When you sign out, we delete that device's session token, along with its stored name, device identifier, and notification token, from our backend. Pairing links expire on their own within 15 minutes.
If you remove the Video Watch Live integration from your Ring account, Ring will revoke our access tokens and your data becomes unusable to us. We will purge stored tokens within 30 days of revocation.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app: Settings › Ring Account › Delete Account. This removes every connected device, our copy of your Ring authorization, your lifecycle-email records, and your email address from our email provider. Residual copies in raw event logs and encrypted backups expire automatically within 35 days. If you have an active subscription, cancel it in Ring's My Apps — billing is handled by Ring, so deleting your account here does not stop it.
Prefer email? Send a deletion request to support@videowatchlive.com and we'll complete it for you.
Your privacy rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you (Data Subject Access Request, or DSAR).
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and data — self-serve in the app (Settings › Ring Account › Delete Account) or by request.
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw your consent at any time (by signing out and removing the integration in the Ring app).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@videowatchlive.com with the subject line “Privacy request”. We respond within 5 business days and complete verified requests within 30 days. We do not charge a fee.
Opt-out mechanisms
You can opt out of Video Watch Live's data processing at any time using one of the following methods. Each takes effect immediately and does not affect your underlying Ring account or hardware.
- Turn off alerts. Settings › Motion & Doorbell Alerts. We delete your device's notification token and stop sending push notifications.
- Sign out. Settings › Ring Account › Disconnect. This deletes the device session token from our backend and removes local app preferences.
- Delete your account. Settings › Ring Account › Delete Account removes all backend data associated with your account — every connected device, stored tokens, and your email address — immediately.
- Remove the integration in the Ring app. Open the Ring app on your phone, find Video Watch Live under connected services, and remove it. Ring revokes our access tokens immediately and we purge stored tokens within 30 days.
- Email us. Contact support@videowatchlive.com to request full deletion of all backend data associated with your account.
Video Watch Live does not have tiered service levels — the processing described in this policy (other than optional alerts) is required to provide the core feature of showing your Ring cameras. If you opt out entirely, the app will no longer function and you can uninstall it.
When humans may see your data
We do not view, record, transcribe, or analyze your camera video or audio. Live streams are converted on our gateway only while you are actively watching and are never persisted; no person watches them, and no copy remains afterward.
The only circumstances in which a Video Watch Live engineer may see data associated with your account:
- Diagnostic logs. When investigating bugs or outages, engineers may see technical logs that can include camera and account identifiers and event metadata — never video or audio content.
- Support requests. If you contact support, an engineer may look at your account's technical state to help you.
- Legal compulsion. If we receive a valid legal request, we may be required to disclose the limited account data we hold (never video, which we do not have).
AI and machine learning
We do not run AI, machine-learning classification, transcription, or any other automated analysis on your camera feeds, event metadata, or account data.
- Use of customer data for AI training. We do not use customer data — yours or anyone else's — to train any model, our own or a third party's. Ring's own AI features are governed by Ring's privacy policy, not this one.
- Effect of opting out of AI training. Not applicable. Because we do not train models on customer data, there is no opt-out to make and no service impact to disclose.
- Notification of AI capability changes. Not applicable today. If we ever introduce AI-driven features, we will update this Privacy Policy with the “Last updated” date, add a clearly labeled section, and notify existing users in-app before the feature is enabled.
Children
Video Watch Live is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored encrypted at rest in AWS. Access to authentication tokens is restricted to specific AWS IAM roles. Live camera streams travel over encrypted HTTPS from our gateway to your devices.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
