Using your Apple Watch

Your watch shows the same cameras as your iPhone, with your favorite pinned to the top, and plays live video with sound right on your wrist.

The camera list

Open the app to see every camera as a thumbnail, with your favorite first. Under Recent you’ll find the latest motion and doorbell events. Tap one to play its clip. Which cameras appear, and in what order, is set on the iPhone. Favorite, hide & reorder shows how.

Live view

  • Tap the video to show the controls: Play/Pause, Fit to Screen or Fill Screen, and Mute/Unmute.
  • Turn the Digital Crown to zoom in up to 4×, then drag to pan.
  • Swipe left or right to move to the next camera. This works in the fit view.
  • Sound starts muted. Unmute from the controls, or change the default with Start Muted in the iPhone app’s Settings.

The stream keeps playing while live view is open, even with your wrist down. If the watch goes back to its clock face, open the app again to pick up where you were. The watch gets a lighter stream than the iPhone, which keeps it quick over Wi-Fi and cellular.

Complications

Add either one to a watch face for one-tap access:

  • Favorite Live shows your favorite camera’s name and opens straight into its live view.
  • Cameras opens the camera list.

Both come in circular, corner, rectangular and inline styles. They’re shortcuts, so the face itself doesn’t show live video.

Opening straight to one camera? Turn on Open to Favorite Camera in the iPhone app under Settings → Apple Watch, and the watch app opens on your favorite instead of the list.
